NTIA Statement on National Academies of Sciences Report:

The Report from the National Academies indicates that Ligado’s terrestrial operations would cause harmful interference to GPS devices and that a number of the FCC’s mitigations would be practically unworkable.  NTIA will review this detailed Report more carefully, but we believe this offers the Commission an important opportunity to reconsider Ligado’s authorization.

Satellite Safety Alliance Statement on NAS Congressionally-Mandated Study

Satellite Safety Alliance Statement on SPRES Report

Today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released a detailed independent analysis prepared under the purview of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that finds Ligado Networks 5G operations will pose significant harm to critical real-time weather and water data transmitted by its NOAA satellites between 1675–1680 MHz. The full Spectrum Pipeline Reallocation 1675–1680 MHz Engineering Study (SPRES) Program Report is available here.

Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Jack Reed, D-R.I., ranking member Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., and six other senators urged the FCC Wednesday to “stay and reconsider” its April 2020 approval of Ligado’s L-band plan, the latest renewal of their longstanding opposition to the action (see 2004160030).

Inhofe, Reed Lead Colleagues In Urging FCC to Stay and Reconsider Order Granting Ligado Applications

U.S. Sens. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) and Jack Reed (D-R.I.), ranking member and chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, led a group of their colleagues today in sending a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) urging them to reconsider granting the license modification request of Ligado Networks, which wants to use a part of the communications spectrum in a way that risks interference with Global Positioning System (GPS) reception. Joining Inhofe and Reed were Sens. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) and Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska).
