July 22, 2021

Today, Reps. Mike Turner (R-OH), Jim Cooper (D-TN) Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA, Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), Frank Lucas (R-OK), Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), Ken Calvert (R-CA), Don Beyer (D-VA) introduced a  House version of the RETAIN GPS and Satellite Communications Act. Read comments from the original co-sponsors here. The Satellite Safety Alliance made the following statement:

“The Satellite Safety Alliance applauds the bipartisan group of congressional leaders who are introducing the RETAIN GPS and Satellite Communications Act today. A diverse coalition of industries, bipartisan congressional leaders, and 14 federal agencies agree: Ligado has a dangerous plan for our airwaves. Testing shows one company’s speculative venture would present an unacceptable risk that threatens our nation’s critical satellite services infrastructure — for no appreciable benefit, but high costs for the private sector and consumers. The RETAIN Act would put the burden to pay where it belongs: on Ligado. We look forward to working with House members and their Senate colleagues to pass this important bill.”
